The European Directive on Alternative Investment Fund Managers (AIFMD) serves not only to ensure the stability and integrity of the financial market, but also to promote a European single market for the fund industry. More than ten years after the Directive was introduced, the European legislator has now adopted AIFMD II, marking the first reform of the regulatory framework.

This practical handbook offers interdisciplinary and practice-oriented insights into the phenomenon of alternative investment funds and their managers. Contributions by more than twenty renowned authors address the core elements of the fund industry and the innovations introduced by AIFMD II – ranging from classification and differentiation within the fund sector to corporate governance, business activities, risks, and risk management. In addition, the volume discusses numerous interfaces and cross-cutting topics, including taxation, digitalisation, and sustainability.
